New hygiene and prosthetic maintenance protocols.

Dental hygienists play a crucial role in maintaining both tooth-supported and implant-supported prostheses.

While the long-term success of prostheses can be compromised by their design, establishing a program of periodic maintenance determined by the professional based on the risk factors present in each case will ensure the durability of the treatment.

The aim of maintenance is to control and remove bacterial biofilm both by the professional in the clinic and by the patient on a daily basis, as well as to detect unhygienic or misfit areas for correction.

It is in this area where the dental hygienist plays an indispensable role, both in terms of educating and motivating the patient and in the professional removal of bacterial plaque, maintaining oral tissue health in their patients.
