Updating the digital flow in the dental clinic

It is a reality that new technologies are revolutionizing our daily lives, and it is clear that dentistry is not exempt from this, revolutionizing our way of working. But it is important to highlight that the incorporation and application of such technologies is a role that must be played by the entire team that makes up the dental clinic.

Currently, it is essential that, using all the means at our disposal, we can carry out a 'total digitalization' of the patient from the first visit, from which we can not only make a correct diagnosis and multidisciplinary treatment plan, but also monitor, motivate, and educate the patient, focusing on what is necessary in each case. Among these tools, as we know well, we must emphasize the importance of intraoral scanners, which, due to their great development, are not currently just tools for taking digital impressions (highlighting better patient satisfaction and improved communication and handling of information among professionals, as some of their benefits), but also allow for a more precise analysis of dental anatomy and soft tissue structure, improving communication with patients. By showing digital images of their own mouths, patients can better understand their oral health and participate more actively in the decision-making process related to their treatment. Dental hygienists can take advantage of this opportunity to educate and raise awareness among patients about the importance of oral health and disease prevention.

That is why new technologies are not the future, but the present, and are transforming dentistry in all aspects; and dental hygienists play a crucial role in their implementation and effective use. Their training and active participation are essential to maximize the potential of these innovations and improve the quality of care and patient experience in the dental office, hence the importance of constant updating.
